It's a twin

by Andy Parkin

It's a twin It's a sin
When my raw data causes strife
The reason always is the same
Twins have always been to blame...
For every compound that I do
No matter for which group or who
Has one thing in common too...

It’s a, it’s a, it’s a, it’s a twin
It’s a twin
Each molecule I’ve ever done
Each ligand that I’ll ever do
Each solvent I have ever used
Each compound that is something new
It’s a twin.

When I was doing my degree
Twinning was such a mystery
What could the difference be
Between the different types of twin
Are all your peaks overlappin’?
Just throw the data in the bin...

It’s a, it’s a, it’s a, it’s a twin
It’s a twin
Each molecule I’ve ever done
Each ligand that I’ll ever do
Each solvent I have ever used
Each compound that is something new
It’s a twin.

Simon forgive me
For not using rotax
My twin laws can never
Be expressed as a matrix.
Whatever you taught me
I didn’t believe it
Simon you beat me
‘cause I didn’t care
and I still don’t understand

So if my data causes strife
And if disorder’s not to blame
The cause will always be the same
For every compound that I do
Mineral, or protein too
And if its ever something new...

It’s a, it’s a, it’s a, it’s a twin
It’s a twin
Each molecule I’ve ever done
Each ligand that I’ll ever do
Each solvent I have ever used
Each compound that is something new
It’s a twin.
When I look back upon my life
it's always with a sense of shame
I've always been the one to blame
For everything I long to do
no matter when or where or who
has one thing in common too

It's a, it's a, it's a, it's a sin
It's a sin
Everything I've ever done
Everything I ever do
Every place I've ever been
Everywhere I'm going to
It's a sin

At school they taught me how to be
so pure in thought and word and deed
They didn't quite succeed
For everything I long to do
no matter when or where or who
has one thing in common too

It's a, it's a, it's a, it's a sin
It's a sin
Everything I've ever done
Everything I ever do
Every place I've ever been
Everywhere I'm going to
It's a sin

Father forgive me
I tried not to do it
Turned over a new leaf
then tore right through it
Whatever you taught me
I didn't believe it
Father you fought me
'cause I didn't care
and I still don't understand

So I look back upon my life
forever with a sense of shame
I've always been the one to blame
For everything I long to do
no matter when or where or who
has one thing in common too

It's a, it's a, it's a, it's a sin
It's a sin
Everything I've ever done
Everything I ever do
Every place I've ever been
Everywhere I'm going to I
It's a sin
